This song kills me I love it so much. It, as well as any song I've ever heard, absolutely NAILS an aspect of growing up perfectly: the inability of being honest with your parents, but an inability that stems from a form of altruism -- because somethimes honesty is the worst policy of all. If they knew how f-ed you really were, all of your problems and struggles would only get worse, not better.
In my mind, no one has ever nailed this paradox better in song. Here's to you, Tracey Bonham. The fact that you haven't hit it with another tune is utterly irrelevant. Just nailing it once puts you in the pantheon with the greats. "I'm losing my mind, but everything's fine." Indeed. That's just perfect.
