I think this band is really cool. They're progressive/experimental, and I think they're really unique. They sound nothing like At the Drive-In, which was the band two of them were in before they started The Mars Volta.

It's amazing how popular they have gotten in the past couple months. They've went from being unknown in the mainstream, to being in the top 10 on the MTV2 rock countdown.
