I love this song, but I can never figure out what it is about. I have had countless arguements with my friends on the subject. I personally think that it is about a guy who goes to his girlfriends house and gets laid for the first time. But several of my friends think it is about a guy sneaking into a house to rape a girl. Now you may ask, "Why did he sneek through the window?" Well my theory is that her parents our home, or something of the sort, so he tries not to make too much noise. And do you really think a rapist would repeat the "I will be with her tonight!" lick over and over again?
Well what do you guys think?

The reason your submission won't be considered for inclusion on SLS11 is because it's not recent enough.
Just so you know... |

That song is about a sour event in Tyler, Texas, near where the Toadies are from (and where I'm from). It's about a serial rapist that plauged the town a few years ago. Pretty morbid shit. |

Umm yeah tyler is a pretty messed up place. I visit and my cuz lives there. And I am confirming, Tyler is about the rape in Tyler, Texas. Which is where the toadies, now the Burden Borthers use to live. When they open to that song at concerts they say,"This next song is about a fucked up town named Tyler" or sumthin along those lines. Then the start dun dun dun "and she runs....." Yeah its pretty creepy but its a kickass song! |

Tyler is my absolute favorite song. You can tell that they were heavily influenced by the Pixies' "Where is My Mind". Anyone else notice that? |

Hey Gang. I live in Tyler and it is a really cool little city. It is very beautiful and the people are friendly. We have the nations only municipal rose garden, an Azalea Trail with brick streets and 3 institutions of higher education. Not to shabby for a place with only a hundred thousand people. Come visit and see for yourself. Spring is the best time.

I have to disagree with you there Craig, I come from Dallas and I have lived in Tyler for two years and have to say that it is a very fucked up place. flowers are all nice and good for old people, but there is nothing here for the almost 20,000 college students who attend the three colleges. Tylerites are very quick to judge others and people who go to Green Acres Baptist Church (AKA "Six Flags over Jesus") seem to have a superiority complex over everyone. The city is dry but the liquor stores and strip clubs on the city lines are all owned by Green Acres Deacons and high-up members. The church controls the whole town. Most of the politicians are members and answer to the church. If the church doesn't approve of a movie, it never makes it to the theater. I can't wait to get out of this shit hole. |

well, this song is about a stalker/rapist. the main giveaway is the "i hear her call out to me, i hear the fear in her voice, she pulls the covers tighter, i press against the door" it doesn't exactly sound like a boyfriend type, more like a girl about to get raped by a psycho. i do like your analysis paul...seems alot brighter than a rape story. |

i dont think this song is about the serial rapist back in 2000. Felix something. He raped 5 women i think, and got 9 life sentences for it. I think this song is about a Stalker in Tyler, TX, but not Felix, since he went on a raping spree post 2000 and this toadies song was release in 1994 |

I live in Tyler and work there. It's a cool little city. But anyway, I love the Toadies and the song Tyler. I don't know if it really has to do with the rapes in Tyler back a few years ago, but oh well. |

The rape theory seems most likely and is PROBABLY the inspiration for "Tyler"/what it's about....but I still love this song. I'd rather not daydream about getting raped when I listen to this song, so now that I know what it is really about, I can forget and get back to my previous daydreams. ^.^

This song is about a rapist in Tyler Texas. The police caught him in the act because she called 9-1-1 and put the phone down just before he came in her room and raped her. The bastard is in prison serving a life sentence. I couldn't imagine how this poor girl feels to know that the most horrific thing to happen to her is the subject matter of a song. Oh, and the fool that thinks Tyler's two strip clubs are owned by church deacons is just plain ignorant. |
