From the moment we at SLS heard the opening chords of "Undone" many moons away we pledged to consider each and every Weezer release.
I heard "Beverly Hills" for the first time and I liked it. It sounds Weezer-ish and that's a good thing.
It shall be strongly considered and I suspect it will make SLS13.

At first listen, I thought it was ok. But after a few more I'm not sure. I'm not down with the weird guitar solo...the whole song just sounds a little to plain. I do like the psudo rap vocals. I agree with Carter...nothing can touch Pinkerton. |

I'm just disappointed with this one. The band I loved for their incredible 90s material has degenerated into little more than a commercial song machine. Even if you want to argue that Weezer has never been anything more, surely they could craft something better than this plodding, shallow shell of a song. How many million songs are their by rock bands singing about fame and money?
A point or two in Beverly Hills' favor: It is catchy. Like every song the band has released in their decade-plus existence, it has those patented Weezer hooks.
But, unless the rest of the album is substantially better, Beverly Hills is a sure sign that the Weez's song quality will never reach the peaks it hit on its first two releases. Their substance, energy, and variety have been replaced with an immature irony and determination not to offend. It's a cookie-cutter blandness that, frankly, I can't stomach anymore.
Here's hoping the rest of "Make Believe" is better than this. |

We're being tough on this track...
It's better than you'd initially think. It's a catchy, fun tune. When you hear it, you're singing along, right? I'm telling you, it will grow on you.
Not every song will be El Scorcho. |

Ok, Beverly Hills is a catchy song, yes. I don't think it's about having money and fame though, I think it's mocking the whole idea of the rich and famous. Listen to it again and maybe you will see what I mean. |

This song is weak. Sure it's catchy as hell. But the lyrics and underlying meaning of the song blow.
The only way this is acceptable is if Rivers has made this song in mockery of the radio friendly debut single Geffen demands. If that's the case, dismiss the following.
I realize in the spoken word part near the song's closing he acknowledges he's not meant for the "Beverly Hills" life. I really don't understand why he advocates worship of the selfish and petty Beverly Hills lifestyle. Does he really wish he was born/accepted into the Beverly Hills lifestyle? When did Rivers become a toolbag?
Hearing this single gave me a feeling not unlike the first time I saw The Phantom Menace. Betrayed and violated. |

Beverly Hills is a very plain song if you compared it to their other songs, but the real underlying meaning is twisted and classic Weezer.
The thing about Weezer is you can't take most of their songs at face value. For example, for the average reader who reads the Sweater song lyrics they will just perceive it as a song about ruining s sweater, but it's really a metaphor about a dying relationship and the exposure of vulnerability.
Beverly Hills is not really your typical friendly radio hit song. It's making a mockery out of the whole Beverly Hills lifestyle. Com on, "Take my picture by the pool, because I'm the next big thing?" Can you get anymore satiric?
Overall, I'm 50/50 with the song, if that makes any sense. I don't like it, but I like the hidden meaning. |

You all have totally missed the meaning of the song. It is a satire of the life that all the rich pricks in beverly hills are living. |
